ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Environment is the fountainhead of life, the bedrock of mankind’s presence and development. Uncontrolled urbanization, industrialization, deforestation and transportation, as the cousins of economic development, have put tremendous pressure on natural resources. Therefore, there is a pressing need to strike a balance between developmental planning and safeguarding the environment. India is not left untouched by the endemic rise of global environmental concerns.
India’s formulation of legislation in accordance with International standards targets a better and more balanced environment. The Indian Constitution is amongst the few in the world that contains specific provisions on environmental protection. However, problems pertaining to implementation of policies coupled with indifferent and misdirected politics have hampered the legislative attempts.
